Counselling and Clinical Supervision

WHAT IS COUNSELLING?

Counselling is a process that helps and supports people to work through and seek ways to deal with a range of psychological difficulties which impact on our emotional well being affecting different areas of our day to day lives.

Counselling is designed to help you become more aware of yourself and others and develop understanding of how you can then, if you wish chose to change as we work together to explore choices and opportunities enabling the potential to move towards a more satisfying and resourceful way of living.
You can speak to your Counsellor about anything and everything, in fact the more open you can be the more effective the work we do together can be.

During our first meeting which is an introduction to each other, you have the opportunity to ask questions to help you decide if Counselling is right for you at this time. Counselling can be difficult for people who are not yet ready to explore some issues but can be a very rewarding experience and many people often return for a session or two long after completion of our work together when they notice issues are unsettling for them. This helps prevent becoming overwhelmed if things are left for too long and ensures you continue to support yourself effectively.

What types of things can I bring to Counselling?

Generally anything that is causing concerns or difficulties for you. People often come because something within them does not feel right, someone else has suggested it (e.g. friend, family member, GP). Issues can be current or linked to your past, sometimes going back as far as early childhood or as a result of a life event such as abuse (including domestic violence), bereavement, loss, family issues, feelings of low self worth and confidence, forming and maintain relationships. The list can be endless. Many issues can lead to extremes of mood such as becoming very angry or withdrawn; they may also result in symptoms of depression or anxiety. You may feel less energetic, lose interest in things you use to enjoy, become tired quickly, experience changes in sleeping and/or eating habits, feel guilty, unworthy. You may experience feelings of dread, become fearful or panic in many situations or seek ways to avoid people or places.

Clinical Supervision

Although I practise as an Integrative Therapist and a Hypnotherapist, my supervision practice has a person-centred foundation, an integration of theory with practice alongside a creative element always with a focus on supporting you in your practice and, if appropriate your training.

As your supervisor my aim is to build a solid, professional, collaborative relationship with you, offering you my objective thoughts and reflections to help you in your relationship with your clients.
Qualified counsellors, counsellors in training on placement and agencies seeking group supervision are welcome to contact me to discuss their needs in more detail, or arrange an initial introductory meeting.
In addition to talking any issues through, I may suggest we work creatively by using action work, creative tools/media or creative thinking. You are free to choose what works best for you and this will always be respected.

Sometimes exploring different avenues can provide a broader opportunity to explore resistance and obstacles within clinical work. These methods may, at times, be very enlightening, allowing you to feel confident in exploring your practice in a new way, and hopefully allowing you to see your clients from a different perspective, thus provoking therapeutic change in your clients.
I currently offer Clinical Supervision to other Counsellors, Counsellors-in-training, groups and those in other helping professions. I offer supportive and warm nurturing environment where exploration, reflection and creative methods of engaging in therapeutic work with others can be developed.

Supervision is provided within 1-1 settings or group supervision either face to face, telephone or via Zoom

A free initial consultation around your needs and what I can offer in the introduction to our supervisory journey and can be made face to face, Zoom or by telephone. This gives us both an opportunity to consider if we are a good fit and we can move forward from there
